Open University – Over 900 free courses are on offer. Enough to keep you going for a while…… The courses are arranged under eight subject headings: Society, Politics & Law; Science, Maths & Technology; Nature & Environment, Money & Business; Languages; History & The Arts; Education and Development; Health, Sports & Psychology.

Future Learn – Browse their course list to find something that you’d like to learn about. They have courses in a diverse range of subjects and are always adding more. Courses vary in length. Most are six to ten weeks long but they also have some shorter two and three week courses. You can learn for free, upgrade, or buy Unlimited. There is free access to the course for its duration + 14 days, regardless of when you join. If you enjoy learning this way you can then decide whether you would like to pay to access more benefits.

edX Courses – from this website you can access over 2500 online courses from 140 top institutions around the world. Not all are in the English language but plenty are. This could be just the opportunity to try something new as courses are at all levels. Choosing randomly from courses at introductory level here are a few of the titles: International Women’s Health and Human Rights; Computer Programming; Japanese Books: From Manuscript to Print; Our Place in the Universe; Modern Masterpieces of World Literature; Chinese History from Warring States to the Tang.

British Sign Language – a very useful skill to acquire. Because of the overwhelming interest in it of recent weeks they are now asking for a small fee (minimum £3) but it is on a pay what you can afford basis. Excellent value!

TED talks are free to watch. An amazing range of talks lasting about 20 minutes each with the aim of spreading good ideas.
